Traditionally our little band of diggers gathers the Sunday night before for "Jet Lag Drinks Hour". Although a bit less true literally than in past years - the furthest commute that day was only from Norway - we had a large and merry crew on hand.
If I appear to be regarding the camera person with suspicion, well Pete has over the years well and truly earned it!
Day one of excavations started with an extensive tour of the site by the chief archaeologist. Here is is holding forth on top of a particularly enigmatic feature.
My work on the first day was fairly mundane. Just clearing rubble off of a road surface. No finds other than a couple of corroded nails.
Here I am at tea break. Yes, it was Pete taking the picture again.
As the day drew to a close dark clouds massed overhead and we got a good soaking.
Back at it tomorrow. Hopefully with good weather, the last bits of jet lag - the literal stuff not the Drinks Hour - shaken off. Stay tuned.
