Tree Shaped Tombstones - Little Sherman

Something spotted in a little cemetery north of Faribault Minnesota.  These short version "tree stones" often tell a sad tale.  But notice the top of it. Here's something we've not encountered before.  Is it a bowl in which potted flowers can be placed?  I prefer to think of it as a bird bath.

This one has less information than usual.  I did not see dates or a last name.  Just the sad inscription:  Little Sherman.
